End of Vassa Celebration & Offering

On Sunday, November 5th at The Forest Hermitage, Wat Pah Santidhamma, there will be a gathering to celebrate the ending of this year’s Vassa or Rains Retreat. As has been the case in recent years we don’t have the required minimum of five monks in residence for a Kathina and so in lieu of that it will be a traditional Tort Pah Bah or offering of so called forest or ‘unwanted’ cloth.

We will commence at 10:30am with the offering of respects to the Triple Gem and the taking or reaffirmation of the Three Refuges and the Five Precepts.

A rice pindapata or alms round will follow with vegetarian food for the Sangha and laity.

In the afternoon there will be a talk by Luang Por Khemadhammo (Phra Bhavanaviteht).

We hope you will join us for this auspicious occasion. And if anyone can help with our preparations on Saturday, the day before, or the clearing up afterwards, we welcome that too.

That’s Sunday, November 5th from 10:30am.

And please don’t forget, every Monday and Friday evening at 8pm we have meditation and a talk that you can attend in person or on Zoom (Meeting ID: 928 2943 2020, Passcode: 909442).

Luangpor’s Birthday

Luangpor’s birthday is on Monday 17th July. You are most welcome to join us all in wishing Luangpor a very happy birthday in-person on Sunday 16th July at The Forest Hermitage.

Magha Puja Celebration

The Forest Hermitage invites you to celebrate Magha Puja – commemorating an occasion when the Buddha met with 1,250 personal and Arahant disciples at the Bamboo Grove – on Sunday 5th March from 10.30am. Vegetarian food to offer and share.

In-person Meditation Cancelled

Unfortunately we cannot hold meditation at the Forest Hermitage on Monday and Friday this week (16th & 20th January). However, you are welcome to join online.

We are urgently in need of a male live-in helper to enable us to keep the temple open for meditation. Please get in touch if you might be interested.

Ajahn Chah Memorial Day

On Sunday 15th January we will gather at the Forest Hermitage (Wat Pah Santidhamma) to celebrate the life and teachings of Ajahn Chah.

January 16th is the anniversary of Ajahn Chah’s passing and is celebrated every year with thousands, monks, nuns and lay people, descending upon Wat Nong Pa Pong in Thailand to meditate and listen to Dhamma talks and to join in the mass circumambulation of the chedi containing his relics.

For convenience this year, since the 16th is on a Monday, we will remember him on Sunday, January 15th.

You are welcome to bring vegetarian food to offer and share at 10am.

Feel free to reply to this email or simply turn-up to Mondays, Fridays or Sundays. We are open as usual!
