Meditation Classes
What do we teach?
The two complementary practices of mindfulness-of-breathing and loving-kindness are taught at the Forest Hermitage.
Mindfulness-of-breathing provides us with a simple yet powerful way to tame our wandering minds. This practice leads to peace; but most importantly an ability to see things clearly. In Buddhism we call this clear seeing ‘Vipassana’ – ‘Insight’.
Loving-kindness is an excellent antidote for a host of mental ailments, including that old chestnut: self-dislike. We refer to loving-kindness as a protection, as it protects both ourselves and others from the damage and destruction caused by anger and hatred.
When can I come to meditate?
Mondays and Fridays, 8 – 9:30 pm
The evening opens with Pali chanting, which is followed by a guided meditation led by Luangpor. At 9 pm Luangpor gives a Dhamma talk, which is followed by a short meditation and then a reading from the Pali Canon or a period of loving-kindness meditation.
(For the chanting book click here. For a recording click here.)
Wednesdays, 7:45 – 9:45 pm
We begin with a guided meditation led by Tahn Manapo, which is followed at 8:30 pm with a Dhamma talk. The sitting concludes with a loving-kindness meditation and a reading from the Pali Canon.
From 9:15 to 9:45 tea is served for those who wish to stay and there is an opportunity to ask questions.
